Those events, such as COVID-19-related production shutdowns or severe raw material supply shortages, entail considerable operational and financial risks. The complexity of Bayer Crop Science\u2019s supply chain is characterized by high demand volatility, many production steps, long lead-time and many SKUs e.g. few millions for Row Crop seed. This large, connected network and many decentral stakeholders makes it almost impossible to quickly identify and orchestrate the right decisions considering cost, cash, and customer service level implications.</p><p>Dr. Ulrich Vogel, Lead data scientist in Bayer, Leverkusen, Germany with 10 years of experience in supply chain decision science.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Dr. Anupam Samanta, Team Lead of supply chain decision science in Bayer, Leverkusen, Germany with 20 years of experience in supply chain planning and decision science.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikemartinezstlouis/\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Martinez</a> will talk about \"<strong>Environment modelling</strong>\":</p><p>Environmental Modeling is foundational for our decision models.&nbsp;We create large scale (4km) \"macrozone\" models that identify large areas with similar weather; and we create small spatial scale (10m) \"microenvironment\" models to identify areas with similar soil and topographical characteristics.&nbsp;</p><p>Mike himself is a senior data scientist in decision science/smart operations working as the technical lead for environmental modeling.</p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://www.linkedin.com/in/balathasan-giritharan-3b504b1b/\" target=\"_blank\">Balathasan Giritharan</a> (Giri) will talk about \"<strong>Deep learning for Ag</strong>\":</p><p>With the significant advancement in machine learning and neural networks, and fast computational units\u2019 deep learning is getting closer to enabling machines to think more like humans.&nbsp;At the same time imaging sensors have become cheaper, smaller, more reliable and able to capture multiple modalities including hyperspectral, x-ray, florescence, LiDAR. With sensors becoming ubiquitous, the amount of data generated and stored is growing at exponentially.
